The route partly follows the tracks of the well-known MTB marathon, which takes place every year in July. The Dolomites, UNESCO World Heritage Site and bizarre peaks, line your path through the nature parks "Fanes-Sennes-Prags", "Ampezzaner Dolomiten" and "Sextner Dolomiten".

Program


1st day: Arrival

Individual arrival at the starting hotel in Alta Pusteria (Villabassa / Dobbiaco). Free unguarded public parking available near thehotel.

 

2. Day: Villabassa / Dobbiaco - Markinkele - Villabassa / Dobbiaco (approx. 45 km, ascent approx. 1,475 m)

From Villabassa / Dobbiaco you first take an asphalted road to the Silversterkirchlein and then the old military road to the Markinkele(Italian: Cornetto di Confine). After a short stop at the newly renovated Markinkelehütte, you return to Villabassa / Dobbiaco.

 

3. Day: Villabassa / Dobbiaco - Plan de Corones - San Vigilio (approx. 55 km, ascent approx. 1,490 m)

Today's stage takes you along the Pustertal cycle path and a longer climb to the Kronplatz (2,275 m), which is a popular summerdestination for families, hikers, bikers, bon vivants and culture enthusiasts. The "Concordia 2000" peace bell and the MessnerMountain Museum Corones are located on the summit. Particularly experienced mountain bikers rush down into the valley on thevarious downhill and freeride trails. With the Kronplatz you have taken the last strenuous hurdle and finally cycle to St. Vigil.

 

4. Day: San Vigilio - Sennes / Forada Vedla - Ra Stua - Cortina d'Ampezzo (approx. 40 km, ascent approx. 1,200 m)

From San Vigilio you cycle to Pederü and continue along the military road to the Fodara Vedla refuge. Continue to the Senneshütte, which offers a far-reaching panorama of some of the most beautiful peaks in the Dolomites: Hohe Gaisl (3,146 m), Cristallo (3,221 m), Sorapis (3,205 m) and Tofane (3,243 m). The trail leads through meadows and mountain pine fields across theDolomites, which were added to the UNESCO World Natural Heritage List in 2009. Past the Fanesalm and through the FanesValley you reach the Olympic town of Cortina d'Ampezzo (1,211 m). Cortina d'Ampezzo, the centre of a winter sports area, wasthe venue of several major international events, including, for example, the 1956 Winter Olympics. Even today, Cortina d'Ampezzo hosts World Cup races of various winter sports.

 

5. Day: Cortina d'Ampezzo - Rifugio Cinque Torri - Cortina d'Ampezzo (approx. 55 km, ascent approx. 1,800 m)

Today takes us on a short panoramic tour of the Ampezzo Dolomites. From Cortina d'Ampezzo you cycle uphill to Col Rosa and on to theRifugio Cinque Torre. On your right you will see the Cinque Torri (2,361 m); consisting of five steep towers that once formed a wholelarge rock block. In front of you rises one of the highest three peaks of the Dolomites, the dolomite giant Monte Pelmo (3,168 m). Withits enormous dimensions, it is one of the first major Dolomite peaks to have been reached by man. Then it's back to Cortina d'Ampezzo.

 

6. Day: Cortina d'Ampezzo - Gemärk - Plätzwiese (approx. 40 km, ascent 1,600 hm)

Today's cycling day takes you to the well-known high plateau of Prato Piazza, above which Dürrenstein and Hohe Gaisl towermajestically. In addition to nature and tranquillity, there is a stunning view here: In the distance you can see Monte Cristallo, theTofana and the world-famous Three Peaks. First you cycle along the cycle path to the provincial border in the Gemärk and thenalong the old military road to the Prato Piazza. Ambitious mountain bikers cycle from the Dürrenstein hut to the panoramicmountain Stru- delkopf and enjoy the view of the famous Three Peaks and the Höhlenstein valley.

 

7. Day: Prato Piazza - Villabassa / Dobbiaco (approx. 40 km, ascent approx. 400 m)

Today you cycle downhill from Prato Piazza to the Braies Valley with its dark coniferous forests and along the cycle path back toVillabassa / Dobbiaco. Ambitious mountain bikers can cycle to the Pragser Wildsee lake before returning to Villabassa / Dobbiacovia the cycle path.

 

8th day: Departure
